The latest image to be released from ESO's Very Large Telescope titled 'Mouth of a Beast' shows nebula CG4 with incredible detail. Sometimes referred to as God's Hand, it is located about 1300 light years from Earth in the constellation of Puppis.
Although this nebula appears as a glowing monstrosity, but in reality the nebula is actual faint and small, relatively speaking of course. The head of the gigantic beast had a diameter of 1.5 light years, and the tail, which extends downwards out of picture, measures 8 light years long.
The head of the nebula is opaque, but glows because it is illuminated by nearby hot stars. Their energy is slowly destroying the dusty head of the globule, sweeping away the tiny particles which scatter the starlight.
